Two thousand years ago people lived, hunted, and traded in the upper reaches of the Red Deer River in a remote corner of Banff Park. This was home. There is clear evidence of a thriving culture that endured over several thousand years and then utterly vanished. Who were these early inhabitants? What did they look like? What would it have been like to meet them?

To find out, my wife and I and several other intrepid explorers set out on a one kilometer hike from Lake Louise to the foothills to get some answers. We found the pit houses, and I resolved to build a replica, live in it and test it.

Join me, Lorne Perry and wife Dale Lamont, on that magical journey of discovery and first hand experience into the amazing life of the first First Nations.
