An exhilarating opportunity for an overnight adventure in the backcountry of Kananaskis Country. This 3-day trip covers a lot of ground. We will travel past the crystal clear waters of Upper Kan Lake, gain panoramic views from atop of headwalls and passes, and enjoy the peace and quiet of camping in sub-alpine forests.

A challenging but rewarding trip you do not want to miss!

Trip Dates: Pre-Trip Meeting: July 27, 2026 (7:00 - 8:00 PM)

Backpacking Trip: August 10-12, 2026

Timeline: January to April: Expression of Interest & Sign-Up with $50 deposit (can be paid in-store at Spirit West)

May 25: Campsites can be booked 90 days in advance.  Once we have secured the campsites, full trip payment will be required.

Day 1 (August 10): Backpacking
- Meet at the Inter-Lakes trailhead at 8:30 AM to sign waivers, pack group gear
- Hike 15.6 km (+775/-251) to the Turbine Canyon Campground
- Lunch provided along the way
- Camp set-up
- Dinner

Day 2 (August 11): Backpacking
- Breakfast
- Hike 14.9 km (+885/-915) to Three Isle Campground via North - South Kananaskis Pass
- Lunch
- Dinner
- Porcupine Viewing/Craft or Lakeside Stretch

Day 3 (August 12): Backpacking
- Breakfast
- 11.2 km (+219m) hike back to the trailhead
- Lunch on the trail
- Celebratory trailhead snack at Inter-Lakes trailhead

What is Included:
Once registered you will receive a packing list.  Please let us know below if you need a piece of gear - we may be able to help you.  If not, the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre has a wonderful rental centre.

What is Not Included:
Once registered you will receive a packing list.  Please let us know below if you need a piece of gear - we may be able to help you.  If not, the University of Calgary Outdoor Centre has a wonderful rental centre. Keep an eye out for backcountry basics sessions through Spirit West and the Explorers' Club to help you prepare for a trip of this nature.  You will be responsible for: 
  • Transportation to Trailhead
  • 2 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 2 Dinners, and Snacks
  • Kananaskis Conservation Pass
  • Personal Camping Gear (Clothing, Tent, Stove, etc.)
